A Message from the Executive Director
As many of you know, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and our housing programs are directly
impacted by the partial government shutdown. Subsidy for the month of February is in place, but there is uncertainty in the affordable housing industry for funding after February should the shutdown continue.Monroe Housing Authority's public housing program is equipped to operate on reserves, which means public housing could operate
with little noticeable impact past February. However, should the partial shutdown continue past February, our HCV program (Section 8) funds may be impacted. Residents on our HCV (Section 8)
program are strongly encouraged to continue to pay landlords your portion of the rent during the shutdown. The Monroe Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners and staff are advocating for an end to the shutdown and diligently seeking solutions to operate with the least amount of disruption to services should it continue.
Any updates we receive will be posted on our website at
www.MonroeHousing-NC.com.

MHA Parking Enforcement
MHA enforces a strict parking policy. All residents with vehicles parked on MHA property must have a parking permit displayed at all times. All cars should pull into a parking space, and all vehicles in violation of the Monroe Housing Authority parking policy are subject to being towed.
Attention Residents
Please stop pouring FOG down the drain. Pouring fat, oil, or grease (FOG) down the drain can lead to clogged pipes. Instead of pouring it into the sink, empty it into a can and let it cool. Then throw it away. Please be sure to dispose of your FOG properly.

Winter Weather is Here!
- Keep snug like a bug - but not too snug. Winter wear should fit kids properly, but gear shouldn't be so tight that it restricts movement. When sizing shoes, allow room for an extra pair of socks. When sending kids off to school or out to play, make sure they're dressed warmly in layers that are windproof. Help keep your little ones warm with hats, scarves, and gloves. You can save time while getting your family out the door by storing gloves and scarves inside hats.
- Practice safety when playing winter sports. Always supervise your child's winter activities. Sledding paths shouldn't be too crowded or too close to roadways. Kids should always wear helmets and gloves and be accompanied by an adult.
- Make your home a safe haven. Be prepared for unpredictable weather conditions by stocking up on essentials, such as extra batteries for flashlights, bottled water, first aid staples, and nonperishable food items.
- Get your kids prepared. Make sure your kids have tissue packs, and hand sanitizer tucked into their book bags. These necessities come in handy and will help prevent the spread of germs.
- Heat your home safely. Before temperatures fall below freezing, make sure your home's heating equipment and your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors function properly. Keep space heaters away from small children. And don't forget to discuss fire safety with your family each winter; the likelihood of indoor fires increases during the colder months, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
